Why does the Catholic Church claim it's the oldest Christian denomination?

The Eastern Orthodox churches and the Catholic Church split during the Great Schism, meaning that, logically, the Catholic Church is NOT the "oldest." All the Orthodox churches AND the Catholic Church together wouldn't even be the oldest churches, because many minor Christian congregations were formed during Jesus' lifetime. So why do Catholics claim they are the first?
