Wmp install?

I am trying to install wmp 11, for some reason yesterday it decided to come up with the following error message when I try to use it. "windows media player is not installed properly and must be re-installed. do you want to install it from the microsoft web site." so i reinstalled it however when I try to launch it, it comes up with the same message. I tried to install wmp 10 who ever it comes up with: This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site. could someone help me sort this out please
