Something really bad happened with my bf... help?

I was on vacation for a week with my mom and my boyfriend really missed me, I could tell.. I've been home for about 5 days now and I know we needed the time apart because before I left we were bothering eachother a little bit. Everything seemed great when I first got home, but this Saturday we got in a huge fight that lasted well into the early morning. I actually had to leave and go stay with my mom and her fiance because things got so ugly. It NEVER got that ugly before and the only thing I can attribute to it is that he recently got his wisdom teeth removed and was taking some kind of narcotic medication for the pain but he had 3 beers with his friend earlier that day. I called 911 before I left because I actually was afraid he would hurt himself. He was saying nasty things to me and it almost got very physical before I knew I had to leave or one of us would get hurt. I never thought it would get to this point and now I have no idea what to do.
